Frequently Asked Questions

Where are you located?

I have a studio in Berlin, Wisconsin and I serve clients there or on-location in Berlin, Green Lake, Ripon, Omro, Oshkosh, Wautoma, and beyond. Although I no longer live in the Wisconsin Dells area, I am still happy to travel there for sessions, at no extra travel charge.

What is your availability?

I take a limited number of sessions each month, so please contact me to check available dates.

Why should I hire you?

Valid question. I can’t answer that. Only YOU know whether you value portraits.

You probably have a mobile phone, and it probably has a pretty decent camera that takes nice pictures. Those are perfect for sharing on social media and emailing to family and friends. But maybe you want something more than a quick snapshot with a phone.

Or maybe, sometime in the past, you hired a photographer who gave you a bunch of digital image files, and you always meant to print them – but you didn’t know where to get a good print or what size would look best on the wall.

The way I look at it, if you’re taking the time and paying the money for professional photos, don’t you want to hire a skilled photographer who can print professional images for you, to be enjoyed every day?

Will you travel to my location?

Yes! Many of my clients are here in Wisconsin on vacation. Others simply have a special location in mind for their session. I am happy to travel to a client’s location for indoor or outdoor portraits. I have all the necessary equipment for any setting, at any time of day. Before your session, I will consult with you and offer my professional opinion about the best location, & lighting for beautiful pictures. Whether your session is indoor or outdoor, I have both the experience and equipment to create the photos you want.

What  kind of sessions do you shoot?

• Families & extended families – I shoot families both large and small. No group is too large! I love working with families of all sizes.
• Senior Portraits – I capture graduates in a way that showcases their personality and style, including all the memorable details of senior year.
• Weddings – My wedding clients customize their wedding package to include exactly what they want. Engagement photos also available!
• Business – From corporate headshots to branding photos for marketing, I can help you put your best face forward to reach your ideal clients.
Mini-Sessions – these sessions are shorter and held only at my studio (indoor or outdoor) for 4 or fewer subjects.

How much does a session cost and what does it include?

For current pricing, please visit the “DETAILS” tab above, and select “Products and Pricing”.
Session fee payment is required to reserve your date. This fee includes the session planning, your photoshoot time, travel time, etc.

Most clients end up spending in the range of $1500 or more on their portrait experience. The final amount you spend will depend on SO many other factors, most important of which being the answer to this question: how do you imagine enjoying your photos? Do you picture a big collage of images on the wall above your couch? Can you see yourself turning pages of an album 20 years from now, reflecting on this time in your family’s life? Would you like to buy prints to share with your family and friends as gifts? What about displaying smaller photos at your vacation home or at work? I have a wide range of products to fit many budgets.

What should I wear?

Your photos should be a reflection of your style. Before your photo session, I will send you a style guide with suggestions and examples of how to pick out clothes and style your hair for your photo shoot. About 2 weeks before your session, I’ll check in with you for a casual Style Consultation. We will meet either in person or via video chat, where you will share your outfit ideas and I will help you narrow down your choices.

Your photos should also match the vibe of your home. Consider where you plan to display your images, and think about the décor in that space. Is it formal or casual? Neutrals or colorful? Modern or traditional? Thinking of these questions will help guide your wardrobe choices, so that your photo will be a piece of art that enhances the beauty of your home.

What about glasses? And Transitions® lenses?

I want you to look like yourself in your photos. If you wear your glasses every day, then you will probably feel most comfortable leaving them on. If you have lenses with anti-reflective coating, that will help with reflections. If you have Transitions® Lenses, keep in mind that they will become very dark when we shoot outside. I can give you more helpful tips on how to deal with glasses when we have your Style Consult.

What if we need to reschedule?

I understand that life gets hectic and sometimes mother nature throws us a curve ball. Your non-refundable Booking Fee reserves my date and time with you, but if that date and/or time need to be changed we can do that at no charge, subject to my availability. If we can’t find a mutually agreeable time to reschedule, you can apply your booking fee to another session within 12 months time, or you may transfer the booking fee to someone else.

When will I see my session photos?

About 14 days after your photo session, I will contact you about viewing your images and placing your order. Local clients may come into my studio for their Image Reveal and Ordering session; clients from out of town can schedule an online Image Reveal and Ordering session.  You’ll see your proof images and decide how many you’d like to keep, and which products you’d like to order.

Can I just get all the digital images?

Yes you can! Digital files are convenient and useful – they allow you to share your images online, reprint your images for personal use, and provide a digital negative of your printed photos. But a digital image file, by itself, is only half a product. A photograph is not finished until it is printed and delivered. For that reason, I encourage every family to buy products first, and digitals second.
