These moments won’t last
but a portrait will

You never understood until *this moment* how
special & amazing a baby would be.
Every sneeze, every sleepy yawn, every squishy expression is a mini-celebration!

Hi! My name is Gretchen Willis, and I’ll be taking care of you and your baby. I’ve been a professional photographer since 2011, but I’ve been a mom since 1999. Having six kids of my own, I can testify to the importance of these fleeting moments. When you’re expecting, nine+ months feels like forever. But once that baby is in your arms, time will be a thief. One day the baby is a skinny, wrinkly baby bird and the next moment your baby is army-crawling and chirping out “mama”.
Adding a person to your family will change everything. It turns your world upside-down and makes you re-learn everything you thought you knew. But those changes bring out the best in you: your heart grows more than you thought possible, your patience is tested and stretched and matured, and you learn how to care more about someone else than you do for yourself.
That’s parenting. That’s love.
Portraits of your child are more than just photos. I want to tell you that you’ll remember how long his eyelashes are, and how his lips make that adorable pucker. I want to assure you that the wisps of her hair and her tiny curled ears will be burned into your memory. But that’s just not true. On your parenting journey, the number of moments you want to remember will grow exponentially: first word, first steps, first haircut, first day of school. Your brain cannot handle the sheer number of things to remember. So photos become the visual bookmarks of our lives.

A new baby is like the
beginning of all things:
wonder, hope,
a dream of possibilities.

“Do you also shoot maternity photos?”
Why, yes I do!
If you’re carrying a baby right now, you know this is the longest – and shortest – nine months of your life. You’re growing a human being inside your body! Whether you call it science or call it a miracle, it is the truest form of self-sacrifice.
You’ve seen other pregnant women and wondered, “What does that feel like?” and now you know – the good AND the bad. Whether you’re feeling joy and expectation, or shock and awe, this body is your baby’s home. You have created a shelter for your child to grow and develop. Celebrate what your body can do!
Many months after your baby is here and you’ve shed the weight from your pregnancy, you’ll have a visual memory of that brief time when you were the only thing your baby needed.

I’ve heard it a hundred times…
“I treasure my baby’s newborn photos
but they are still on a memory stick.”
Let me create a portrait that celebrates this new little life,
or an album that will be a keepsake to share
with their own children.
Long after the stroller is retired and the crib has been sold,
the only memories that you’ll keep are your photos.
Having a tangible, printed image
will be a daily reminder of how little they once were.
