Winters in Wisconsin can be hard, especially for moms with young kids. Cabin fever sets in for kids and moms alike when the driveway has 6 inches of snow on it without a plow in sight.

One place I love to visit – summer or winter or any time of year – is the Portage Public Library. When we move to a new town, the library is the first place I find. It’s a safe landing place for me and my children. I’ve been to big libraries and small libraries, old ones and new ones. Going to the library has been the one constant in my life amongst all the different cities in which we’ve lived.

So when I asked a friend to do a shoot for me with her two daughters, naturally we chose a favorite spot: our local library. I love the backdrop of the stacks and the girls had a fun time picking out all their favorite books.
