We live on a lot of land, so I like to think of myself as a country girl. (maybe…)

Whether I’m a little bit country or a little bit rock ‘n roll, I know some delicious jam when I taste it. And delicious jam only comes from fresh fruits – not the ones bought at a grocery store. No sir. The only way to make delicious jam is to get fresh local fruit, preferably picked and canned in the same day.

Well, this year we had grand intentions of planting a garden, but the cold weather kept lasting on and on, and we got busy with other plans. So, instead, we decided that this year we’d give a good boost of patronage to the Portage Farmers Market instead. That way we’d still be enjoying locally grown produce, but without all the weed-pulling and bug-spraying and wildlife-fist-shaking.

Today the main attraction was strawberries. I couldn’t wait to get home and make strawberry jam. Nothing like it in the whole world. mmmm…..
